Tim Sebring, Todd Henderson and Jeremy Wonderling Among Winners on First Friday Night at Black Rock

DUNDEE, NY - On a hot night when the heats had a tendency to overheat, Tim Sebring was relaxed to find himself leading with a motor that was calm, cool and collected.

Sebring dominated the 25-lap Marble’s Automotive Modified feature event taking the lead on lap eight from sophomore competitor Trevor Sutherland and surviving a rash of cautions towards the end to capture the opening night win.

“I looked down at the gauges and everything was good, I was actually hoping
the cautions would help it warm up,” said Sebring jokingly in Victory Lane.

The veteran has always ran strong at the Black Rock Speedway, normally found running the body, primarily used the high line to his advantage in the District 45 Suzuki Teo.

“Everyone else ran the bottom so I decided to run the top,” said the Penn Yan, NY driver, “We had a lot of power tonight and the car ran real strong.”

Sebring grabbed the lead after the first restart, but before that it was Trevor Sutherland who was the class of the field, after inheriting the lead from Joel Batzel on the second lap. Sutherland would hang on for his best career finish.

Chris Ostrowski from Binghamton abused the new “turtles” and the pylons that adorn them on the bottom of the speedway, but it paid off, as he was able to
finish third.

Ray Bliss Jr. continued his solid run to place fourth with Kenny Peoples Jr. had an impressive run using the very top of the track to round out the top five.

Todd Henderson picked up the opening night win in the Hoselton Automotive Sportsman for the second year in a row as he moved under the Justin Wright No. 19w with two laps to go to score the victory.

“Justin ran us real strong, that was a good win,” said Henderson. “We
usually run pretty good at this place so it’s good to come here and know we
are going to run well.”

After the only caution flag on lap 12, Henderson had trouble moving around
Wright, and once he inherited the lead he had to deal with lapped traffic,
but it was not enough to stop the Canandaigua, NY veteran, who used the win
as a consolation prize for his heartbreak in the $5,000-to-win Sportsman
race held two weeks earlier.

Justin Wright developed a push on the final lap, allowing defending champion
Brady Fultz to slide into second, and dropping Wright to third. Rounding
out the top five was Daryl Hilkert and Dan Sellen completed the top-five.

Two-time champion Jeremy Wonderling was again in command in the Freedom
Village USA Late Models, leading all 15 laps to win the season opener for
the second straight year. Wonderling felt the pressure from Quinn
Sutherland early but the No. 36 faded in the late stages and settled into
second.

Tim Schram had a solid run, placing third, with John Waters and Jim Johnson
completing the top-five.

Rich Sharpsteen put on a dominating performance in the Labatt Blue Street
Stocks, leading all 20 laps to pick up the win in the No. 5acres. Chris
Fisher was close in tow in the early laps, and made things interesting
towards the end, but did not have enough for the veteran.

“If you thought last year’s car was fast, this one is a rocket,” said
Sharpsteen. “The track is so nice this year, I’m with Dean, I love having
no inside wall and having an escape route.”

Behind Sharpsteen and Fisher were Chris Force, Jared Hill and Chuck Pruden.

Joe Povoski had the perfect setup in the Signs Plus of Kanona 4-Cylinder
Feature, leading all but the first lap to win in convincing fashion.

Ray Spiecher and Jack Ayers parlayed their heat wins into second and third
place runs, respectively, with Chris McCann and Del Cummings rounding out
the top-five.

Dylan Cecee roared through the field in the Home Necessities Bandit feature
as he took the lead away from Cody Moorehouse on lap 5 and held off the rest
of the field over the second half of the event to take his first step
towards a championship run in 2008.

Moorehouse was able to hold onto second, with Courntey McMinds scoring a
career-best third place run. Brian Wilson and Kailey Wassner also scored or
equaled their career-best runs as they rounded up the top-five.

At intermission, Scott Tillinghast of Faith Step Ministries dominated the
Faster Pastor Enduro, holding off Matt Camacho in the closing laps for the
big win.
