For Immediate Release – June 3rd

(DUNDEE, N.Y.) – Up and coming Crate Sportsman driver Zach Ziegenhagen has already made a name for himself at Outlaw Speedway, in only his second year racing in Dundee, he was tagged with the nickname “Z Squared.”

The 24-year-old driver out of Elmira, NY, has more on his plate than just racing. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and has been a local firefighter in the Elmira community for 8 years.

Shortly after getting out of the military, Ziegenhagen decided to further serve his community by taking the steps toward becoming an Emergency Medical Technician; he is anxiously awaiting his State Exam test results to see if he passed the final written exam.  Ziegenhagen invested hundreds of hours of training to help serve others, just like race teams all across the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier who invest hours in the shop to make their racecar go just that fraction of a second faster.

Growing up, racing is something Ziegenhagen always wanted to get in to. At eight years old he began watching his step dad, Ray Dann, race Small Block Modifieds.  Since that time, Ziegenhagen has wanted to follow in his footsteps of being behind the wheel of dirt modifieds on Friday nights.

When asked in an interview how he handles his time between racing and keeping up with becoming and EMT, as well as being a firefighter, Ziegenhagen stated “it’s tough, racing takes up a lot of time, but it’s worth it.”

Zeigenhagen finds motivation through his step dad’s racing career, and he expressed that racing is something he wants to succeed at.  Aiming to do a little better than the last race is what keeps him coming back each week.

From the beginning of 2015 to three weeks into 2016, Ziegenhagen has grown immensely as a driver.  Ziegenhagen is benefiting from that resource that is so important, but you can’t put a price on- seat time.

Keep an eye out for “Z- Squared” each week to see how this second-season driver progresses in his racing career.
